I have the honour to ask your sanction

to proceed to England on leave early in May next year

for a period probably not exceeding six months, wing to

the fact that my wife is now in England slowly recovering

from her second dangerous illness contracted in Hongkong –

I am specially anxious to take this leave, and to form

my plans accordingly, I have not availed myself of a

single day's leave since I landed in the Colony in July

1907, and in accordance with the custom hitherto followed

in this Colony I shall be entitled to three months

privilege and five and one half month's half-pay leave.

Mr May, who has frequently acted as

Officer administering the Government for considerable

periods, and in whom I have complete confidence, will

be available to act during my absence.

The Right Honourable,

the Earl of Crewe.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's humble, obedient servant,

Видения

Governor.
